Of all losses, time is the most irrecuperable for it can never be redeemed.

-King Henry Ⅷ

King Henry Ⅷ

1491-1547

About

Henry Tudor was born June 28, 1491. He was the king of England from 1509 until his death on January 28, 1547. He was infamously married 6 times, beheading 2 of his 6 wives. He also started and was the head of the Church of England.

Wives

Catherine of Aragon

Was married to King Henry Ⅷ to make alliances with Spain. She gave birth to Henry’s first child, Mary. King Henry Ⅷ and Catherine of Aragon were divorced in 1533, when King Henry asked the Pope to divorce, but he didn’t approve. Henry established the Church of England so he was legally able to divorce Catherine.

Anne Boleyn

Could not have a child because of she was 45, and too old to bear a child. King Henry Ⅷ tried to figure out a way to get out of their marriage. He set her up with a worker in the castle, and beheaded her for treason, for having many lovers.

Jane Seymour

King Henry Ⅷ considered Jane Seymour his only true love and wife. Unfortunately, she died while giving birth.

Anne of Cleves

King Henry Ⅷ divorced Anne of Cleves because he didn’t like her “in the flesh”, meaning that he found her very unattractive.

Catherine Howard

King Henry Ⅷ found Catherine Howard very attractive (unlike his last wife), but she had an affair. He beheaded her for treason, like Anne Boleyn.

Catherine Parr

Catherine Parr tried to ban books while she was King Henry Ⅷ’s wife. She was his last wife.

Church of England/Anglican Church

In 1534, Parliament passed the Act of Supremacy, making King Henry Ⅷ the head of the Church of England. This was not accepted at first, 30,000 people from the north rebelled as an effect of this, and 200 were executed. Everything was accepted overtime. This movement helped the Protestant Reformation expand and grow by getting people on board with change. The Church of England claims to be both Protestant and Catholic.
