About

Nicolaus Copernicus was a Polish mathematician and astronomer who was born February 19, 1493. He proposed that Earth wasn’t actually the center of the universe. He died May 24, 1543.

Theories

  • Earth and other planets revolve around the Sun.
  • The Sun lays near the center of the universe.
  • The Earth’s rotation caused the rising and setting of the Sun and the movement of the stars.
  • The Earth’s revolutions caused the seasons.

On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres

Was a book written by Copernicus in 1532, and published in 1543. The book explained that the planets orbited the Sun, not the Earth. Included a model of the Solar System, and the path of the planets. The book was banned by the Catholic Church in 1616 because of its theories.
